The mental health center of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has started training 53 regional coaches on suicide prevention.
In February and March 2024 In 2018, the Center's specialists conducted five-day trainings for representatives of health care institutions, psychological support, social protection, of internal affairs, education, state and public organizations. Participants from 20 regions of Ukraine: Vinnytsia, Volynska, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zakarpattia, Zaporozhye, of Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, of Kyiv, Kirovohradska, of Lviv, Mykolayivska, of Odesa, Poltava, of Rivne, of Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernihivska, of Chernivtsi, Kharkivska.
The trainings are part of the professional training program for regional trainers on suicide prevention in communities – gatekeeper training. The dissemination of the suicide prevention program in communities will contribute to the formation of knowledge and practical skills in providing primary psychosocial support to persons at risk of committing suicide and self-harm, detection of warning signs, support in suicidal crisis and referral for specialist help.
The training program for regional trainers is implemented within the framework of the joint project "Interagency cooperation in the health sector/ UKR23/0016 Institutional Cooperation in the Health Sector" of the Akershus University Clinic (Norway), The Mental Health Center of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the Public Organization "Words Help" with the financial support of the Norwegian government.
